Research:
A principle goal of neuroscience is to provide accurate, systems-level descriptions of neuronal function. Fly flight provides a unique opportunity to formulate functional neurobiological hypotheses which (1) take into account the real-time behavior of the animal, (2) are informed by the natural history of the organism, (3) are constrained by a detailed understanding of the physics of the behavior (flapping flight), and (4) are experimentally testable by molecular-genetic manipulations. This rare confluence should allow for a richer description of visuomotor processing and permit more conclusive functional statements to be made about neuronal activity.

Education:
B.S., Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, 1997
Ph.D. Harvard University, Boston, MA, 2005
